Part Two: What to Look for in a Hospital (or Clinic) Partner
by Marian Furlong, President and CEO, Hudson Hospital, Hudson, WI and Steve Muellerleile, Administrator, Hudson Physicians, Hudson WI
Just as you are looking for indications that a prospective employer is the right fit, the employer is looking for indications that you are right for his or her organization. While you may not be asked directly, recruiters are seeking answers to the following questions during the hiring process:
- Could we sustain a partnership with this physician that fosters collaboration, understanding, and mutual agreement of goals, priorities, and conflict resolution?
- Will this candidate embrace participation in hospital committees and medical staff meetings that help strengthen clinical offerings and quality rankings?
- Does he or she display a willingness to proactively get involved in the promotion of his or her practice – through community relations, media relations, and physician relations?
- Will this physician work to save costs and generate revenue, allowing the hospital to reinvest in business development initiatives that support your clinical interests?
- Will this candidate strive to maintain clinical expertise and integrate fresh thinking by staying abreast of new technology, clinical developments, and industry trends?
- Does this candidate clearly display a passion for taking care of patients?
In addition to a thorough review of your CV, confirmation of references, and multiple interviews, hiring managers are searching for something more. Be prepared to answer these indirect questions and recruiters will be able to see you as the right fit for their organization.
